Depiction of a typical hazy morning New Forest woodland view, in Summer. Created using palette knife softened with brush and incorporating my characteristic subtle use of reflective paints to capture and reflect the light.

My work is principally focused on interpreting and expressing a sense of place. I seek to express the unique quality of places… landscapes, seascapes and townscapes.
I have studied and qualified in Fine Art, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design and I am a fellow of the Landscape Institute. I have always had a love of painting from the very earliest age. I have been fortunate in my career as a Landscape Architect to design and to have had built, four dimensional ‘ Big Art ‘ on a large scale, which have matured over time and have become memorable places, I hope.
There is great satisfaction in seeing people enjoying the environments that I have designed and I have gained a number of national design awards for my work. It is only relatively recently that painting has absorbed me once more and it feels like I have taken a long journey to return to a first love!
Had lunch in the Handlebar Cafe. Fabulous… check it out.
I find painting the most immediate and expressive of all artistic practices. I am drawn to painting mainly landscapes and seascapes, which I believe is rooted in my particular love and understanding of ‘landscape’ in it’s widest sense. In it’s essence, this is the connection between place and people, at a specific time to create a ‘genius loci’ or ‘sense of place’.
I particularly like to work with texture and often use pastes and sometimes apply gold leaf. I almost always use reflective paints in the work to capture and reflect the light. I will usually combine the use of palette knife and soften this with brush work. I remain inspired by the enduring impressionist masters: Turner, Klimt, Monet, Cezanne, Matisse, Pissaro and also the more contemporary Landscape artists Mackintosh, Hitchens, Manrique, Heron, Rae, Iden … and I would describe my paintings as broadly impressionistic.
I am always very pleased to take commissions. If you have an idea in mind for a particular space then please just contact me at pauljbest@aol.com. I would really appreciate any feedback on my work. If you see a painting that you love then please do feel free to make an offer or to message me for any further information. I love to think that people enjoy having the paintings in their homes and this is a big part of the pleasure of offering the work for sale.

Becky is primarily a painter of seascape and landscape subjects principally in oil, acrylic and watercolour. She is based on the Isle of Wight with her studio / art gallery in St Helens which is open for visits and she has been painting full time for 33 years.
The Isle of Wight is a special place to live and paint and Becky’s inspiration comes from the amazing island coastline and landscape plus her travels abroad. Light and colour are integral to her work and painting en plein air gives her the most satisfaction and connection with her subject.
Becky has a range of Giclée Prints and Greeting Cards to compliment her original work.
Becky is a member of the Society of Women Artists and her paintings have been exhibited widely, through galleries and exhibitions.

I love colour and I remember feeling excited when looking at all the flowers in full bloom. Ramster Gardens is a magical location, and has an enormous range of trees and plants. I used a large combination of warm colours for the foreground and cool colours for the background, to give an impression of distance.
The end result is very close to the actual scene.

I am a Fine Artist based near Hartley Wintney in Hampshire but I also spend a few months of the year in Marbella in Spain, where I paint on location.
I studied ‘visual communications’ and completed a foundation course in the late 1980’s - gaining a distinction at the Cardiff Institute of Art and Design. I then worked in London as an Art Director for a number of leading agencies, before deciding to concentrate on oil painting and pen and ink drawing. I have been classically trained and my style has been described as similar to that of the 'Impressionists'.
My paintings and drawings are for sale and can be viewed on this Hampshire Artists site and in the Gallery of my website. I am also available to undertake commissioned work.
I offer art lessons.
I am in the process of setting up art classes in the evenings for the Fleet area of Hampshire in the UK, and also in Marbella in Spain. I will naturally be teaching adult students how to paint in oils, and will also be concentrating on developing their drawing techniques.
The objective of the courses will be to focus on individual requirements. Everybody has their own preferences regarding what they like to paint or draw. I will endeavour to improve a student’s skill level, so they become more confident and proficient.
I also will be organising groups to join me during some weekends drawing and painting landscapes on location.
If you would like to know more about these lessons please contact me on the numbers or email address above.

The painting developed into a mythical representation of a new beginning, because of the nature of the composition. I noticed a person standing far away in the distance from one of the photographs I had taken. The sheer scale of the rhododendron trees makes a powerful image, especially with an almost biblical sky. I used several layers of paint to create a dramatic effect. I wanted to draw the viewer into the landscape. Notice how the flower heads stand up in salute to the brilliant light drilling down from above.
