As an artist, I want to develop paintings that speak both to me and to others about the beauty that I see in the world. I love to paint landscapes and townscapes, particularly scenes in my home county of Hampshire.
I am influenced greatly by artists such as Van Gogh, Kandinsky and Cezanne and use bold colours in my paintings, in the hope of capturing moods and emotions and also creating a sense of connection to a location.
I paint for the pure enjoyment of it and desire to share this joy with others.
My paintings are made by using a variety of mediums including acrylic, gouache, oil pastel, ink, collage and pencil.

I have exhibited paintings at Winchester Cathedral and also at the Business Design Centre, Islington, as winner of the Abstract and Experimental category for the Society for all Artists.

“Portchester Castle stands in a commanding position at the north end of Portsmouth Harbour. The Romans built a huge fort here, which remains the best preserved Roman fort north of the Alps. After the Norman Conquest a castle was built in one corner of the fort, which grew into an impressive royal residence.” – History of Portchester Castle on English Heritage website

David Drury is largely self-taught and has developed his own recognisable style. He has reached a stage where his work is attracting attention at local exhibitions. He enjoys painting a wide variety of subjects using traditional methods but particularly enjoys painting landscapes and buildings combined with a use of strong colour.
David now has his own website which has the full range of his art work, including a Surrey Scenes Collection, a set of Venice & Florence Paintings, and a Gallery of his other art. Most paintings are available as high quality, limited edition giclee prints.
David is a member of Woking Society of Art, Byfleet Art Group, The North Surrey Artists Group and Pirbright Art Group.

"Having tried a “do-it-yourself “ website construction, with horrible results, a friend recommended Chris.
I have been more than happy with the website he designed for me, and it has had a lot of positive reaction.
He has just produced a shiny new version, which is even better!"
"Dear Chris,
We are delighted with our art website. In addition to all the items we requested, you have added many artistic details that really enhanced the site.
We would also like to thank you for your patience, explaining and talking us through all the concepts we did not understand.
It has also been reassuring knowing that you are on the end of the phone ready to answer our queries as they arise.
It has been a pleasure working with you.
Best regards."
"This is the second website that Chris and Colette from Surrey Artists have designed for me and I am delighted with the result. They put in an amazing amount of work collating a large amount of detail to ensure my paintings are professionally displayed.
The finished website has already attracted a large number of serious enquiries some of which have been converted"
“Winchester Cathedral is a cathedral of the Church of England in Winchester, Hampshire, England. It is one of the largest cathedrals in Europe, with the greatest overall length of any Gothic cathedral. Dedicated to the Holy Trinity, Saint Peter, Saint Paul and, before the Reformation, Saint Swithun, it is the seat of the Bishop of Winchester and centre of the Diocese of Winchester. The cathedral is a Grade I listed building.”

Sadly, Noël Haring passed away in August 2008. As a memory of his talent, his excellent work (both original paintings and Limited Edition Fine Art Prints), continue to be available for sale. Please contact us via email.
Having graduated in Design from The Royal College of Art in 1957, Noël Haring started his own industrial and graphic design business. He saw a turning point in his artistic career when a friend introduced him to working in watercolour.
Noël Haring exhibited at The Royal Watercolour Society Summer Exhibition from 1992 and all major exhibitions at the Mall Galleries (Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Royal Society of Portrait Artists, Royal Society of Marine Artists) including the most prestigious one: The Singer and Friedlander /Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.
In 1997, HRH The Prince of Wales selected all the paintings Noël submitted for The Discerning Eye Exhibition.
In 2000 Noël Haring was a prize winner at the Singer and Friedlander/ Sunday Times competition, with his picture “Classic Car in Havana”.
“His meticulously observed watercolour of a dilapidated colonial-style building bathed in brilliant sunlight, with a well-preserved old banger parked on a road outside, is a considerable achievement, not least because it gives not a hint of how complicated it was to get it to look natural”.
Dr Frank Whitford, Art Editor of The Sunday Times
In November 2005, a new Prize Exhibition organised by the Lynn Foundation together with the Painter-Stainers Company gave Noël an opportunity to once again show his talent. His picture “Morning in Brighton” was one of the 12 selected watercolours among the 53 works of mix media accepted out of more than 700 pictures submitted.

I have been painting in watercolour now for about twenty years. Most of what I have learned has been through observation and tuition at workshops, and through art clubs. I live now in St.Johns Village, not far from the Basingstoke canal, which in itself is an inspiration, offering up endless subjects changing throughout the year.
This gallery is a showcase of some of my watercolour paintings. For a full set see my website. Some of them are recent, and some are not so, but just retained because I like them. Some of them were sold long ago, others are still available. Waterways are a constant favourite, either local or from my travels. There is nothing quite like watercolour for depicting water. However, the gallery does show quite a mix of subjects, and as you can see, elephants have fascinated me for some time.
Watercolour is my chosen medium. It can be infuriating, but rewarding when successful. I have come a long way with it, but there is always more to do, so am unlikely to change to another medium. Occasionally I add some ink for a particular effect, otherwise I depend on the purity of watercolour.
Painting is for me a pleasure, and exhibiting is part of the experience. I usually exhibit locally four or five times a year, with regular venues in Guildford and Pirbright.
Sales enquiries are are gladly received. I don't as yet produce prints, maybe I will one day, but so far have only sold originals. I have sent pictures all over the globe, and can go into detail if you want to enquire about any particular painting. At the time of writing this, the paintings which I have sold are widely distributed not only across the UK, but also hang in collections in France, Eire, Spain, Italy, Greece, Holland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
I am always very pleased to receive commissions.
